I wouldn’t mind seeing more of this sort of thing. I have no idea if this is a guerrilla birdhouse or if it was sanctioned by Costco, and I don’t know if it is functional or purely decorative, but, unlike graffiti, it’s not ugly, destructive, or malicious. It just adds a bit of charm to an otherwise uncharming suburban parking lot.

I wouldn’t like to see the trees filled with these, but little, random touches of creativity here and there would be nice to see. Everything built in my lifetime is so severe and sterile. It’s all function without form, like Soviet block housing.

There are still remnants of Great Depression era construction that can be seen around the area where I live. Bridges and buildings that were built to be beautiful and serve a purpose. Now, everything is built to serve a purpose and make a profit. There’s no room for beauty and aesthetics. So, when you see the way our grandparents and great grandparents used to build things, it’s a sad reminder that people used to give shit.
