Category: Macabre

You don’t hear the word macabre very often. Or at least I don’t. Perhaps that’s why it jumps out at me when I hear it. The belligerent homunculus in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies said macabre once in At World’s End. Elvira might use it more than anyone else, though.

I think most people have some interest in the macabre even if it’s only seasonal. I sure do. Although I have absolutely no interest in horror movies, however, there are less violent forms of macabre entertainment that I enjoy.

Fright Night with The Count

I’ve showcased a couple of them on this site. The first is a monthly radio program that airs on the fourth Friday each month. It’s called Fright Night with The Count and it’s hosted by The Fleshtones’ Peter Zaremba. The show is an hour of macabre music combined with some light radio theater. From the classic Halloween hit, The Monster Mash, to ghostly surf rock to sci-fi electronica, Fright Night is unlike anything else on the radio. I have never been able to find any substantial information about the show so I took it upon myself to create a Fright Night with The Count fan page here. Now, I am fully aware that absolutely no one was asking for this but I don’t care. I wanted it so now it exists. Each month I post the shows song list along with a summary of the show.

My Strange Hobby

Think that’s weird? My other hobby makes that look downright normal. You see, we spend a lot of our time riding bikes. Riding bikes give you a perspective of the land that you just don’t get in a car. As such I see a lot more dead animals on the ground than the average person probably does. A long time ago when I was a kid, my dog killed a rat. She left it on the living room floor as a tribute. I took a picture of it so my mom could see it and then I cleaned it up. And that began my lifelong hobby of taking pictures of dead animals. And since I’ve been doing it for so long I have amassed quite a large collection.

So you can view it here…and judge me.
