How Many Satellites Do We Need Up There?
A few weeks back, Mark Rober published a YouTube video documenting the launch of a satellite he built for $5,000,000 that somehow allows you to take a selfie from space. I don’t know how it works; I didn’t watch the whole video. His voice and the cadence of his delivery grate on my nerves. Besides that, I thought the idea was a stupid waste of resources. Nevertheless, it exists somewhere up in space now, along with scads of other satellites doing god only knows what. And SpaceX keeps launching more every week. What are they all for?
I will admit, despite my disapproval of the extravagant waste of resources that could be spent on improving people’s lives here on Earth, these launches do make for some pretty pictures.

While I was staring up at the sky tonight, taking pictures of the rocket’s contrail, I stepped on a board with a screw sticking up and it punctured my flip-flop and subsequently my foot.

I’ll probably survive.
