A Photo A Day

I Do Not Envy Her Sunburn

Richard

I thought it was highly unlikely that she sat down on that bench and then just keeled over and died, so I saw no point in sounding an alarm. I figured she was just taking a fetty nap. Just a few hours earlier, on the bench next to hers, I watched a woman hit some sort of pipe. I checked on her periodically until I saw her move. She didn’t move much, but it was enough to tell that she was alive.

People passed her by, and even sat on the bench next to her, but no one seemed to be in the slightest bit concerned about her. What struck me was the way her left arm is twisted in an unnatural and uncomfortable-looking position.

After at least an hour, she sat up, took in the world, and staggered off somewhere. I’m sure wherever she is tonight, the left side of her face is hot and sore. She probably has a sunburn on her left palm, too.
