I Started Another New Project Today

Richard

I started replacing the walkway out back today. It had deteriorated to a point that it was both inconvenient and dangerous. Replacing it has been on my list for some time, but it has been a low priority. It got moved up, though, because we have people coming to visit in less than a month, and more people coming a month after that, so I don’t want anyone falling and breaking their necks.

I made the original walkway out of old pallets back in 2015. I knew the untreated, unfinished wood wouldn’t last forever, but I’m satisfied with how long it lasted. I had hoped to be able to take up the old, broken planks and replace them with new ones, but when I started taking them up, I discovered the stringers were severely rotten, too. One of them almost completely returned to the Earth.

I’m rebuilding the walkway with Trex leftover from another project. I don’t have enough to do the whole thing, but I don’t care. As long as I can redo the stretch from the patio to the fire pit, I’ll be satisfied. That’s the most heavily used part. The rest can be done later.
