Let There Be Storage!
This old shelving was in the same spot in my mom’s garage my whole life, until last Wednesday, when I dismantled it and brought it home. I thought that maybe it was too big for my garage, but when I went to pick it up, it was smaller than I had remembered. I measured when I got home and found it would fit almost perfectly.
So, I spent this afternoon removing everything along that wall, assembling the shelves, and then filling them back up. I thought if I had these big shelves to put everything on, I would look at that side of the garage and feel a sense of accomplishment and order, but that’s not how I felt at all. It still feels like a chaotic mess of clutter.
I suppose that’s because the problem was never how the shit was stored and organized, but that there’s too much shit. A lot of it is actually going to be sold, so eventually I will be able to reclaim some of the space. At least for now, though, I have more room on the floor of the garage because I was able to move a bunch of shit underneath the shelving. Baby steps.
