A Photo A Day

So, That Happened

Richard

So, back on New Year’s Day in 2017, I picked up this old HiFi console from someone giving it away on Craigslist.

I had a vision to remove the old HiFi components to make room for a modern stereo receiver. It worked well for a while, but there wasn’t enough airflow around the amp, so the first two I used in there burnt up.

Eventually, I just put the receiver on top, and Bonnie helped fill in every inch of remaining space with all of our most fragile items. That in itself isn’t a problem, but one time, when I was moving the console on the carpet, I broke the front right leg. I tried to glue it back in a couple of times, but it never really took.

It’s been a lingering concern, especially since I already knocked the leg out while I was moving it and broke a couple of things. I flipped out when the fiber guys were installing my new internet, and they just started manhandling it because, in addition to my stereo and lots of fragile tchotchkes, it’s also where I keep my NAS because it’s close to the router.

So, this morning, while I was vacuuming, I accidentally bumped the bed leg, and everything came tumbling down.

The console actually landed on its front, so nothing remained on top with the exception of the NAS and router, because I was close enough to catch them. If my NAS had hit the ground and I lost my video archive, I would be absolutely devastated. I’m so thankful that didn’t happen.

All of Bonnie’s knick-knacks have been triaged, and they’ve all been through their first round of surgery. Some will need more, but we just have to take it one day at a time.
