Is there a better food than pizza? That’s right, there isn’t. It is simply the best food ever created. It took the best parts of all the best foods and combined them into a single perfect meal.

Pizza has bread which is inarguably wonderful and delicious. Marinara which can actually be hit or miss is always on point on pizza. Then you’ve got the cheese which just makes everything better. From there you can do whatever you want. Kind of like a slutty girl with daddy issues.

I don’t remember my first slice of pizza. But it was a fixture throughout my childhood. Every Sunday night my mom would play softball and then the team would go out for pizza afterward. I loved those nights.

When I was a kid the closest place for a pie was Straw Hat. I was so sad when it closed. It became another pizzeria that still exists today. It’s one of those things that I would like to try again just to see if it’s as good as I remember. Pioneer Chicken is another. I would love to try their chicken strips and bbq sauce once more.

So you can imagine my excitement last Summer when my dad suggested we go to Straw Hat for dinner. “You have a Straw Hat here,” I said in disbelief. I hadn’t seen one in 25 years. I was over the moon with excitement only to be let down by the biggest bait and switch in history as we pulled up to Pizza Hut.

He didn’t see the severity of his gaffe. As far as he was concerned pizza was pizza. He’s right to a certain extent but what is also true is that expectations are expectations.
