I’m all for planning ahead, but when I think about where I want to be in two years, my vision is a little broader, and I’m certainly not planning down to the hour. Of course, August 16th, 2027, won’t be a Saturday, so I don’t know how that fits into his plans.

Pace Yourself

A video popped up in my feed today of a young woman encouraging one and all to “hustle smarter, not harder.” She said that “it’s literally hibernation season” and that instead of new year, new me, it should be “new me with small steps.”

As someone who spent their 20s and 30s fruitlessly hustling, I can appreciate the anti-hustle movement that’s been trending around the internet lately. This video, though, cracked me up. She started off by asking why we start every year by seeing who can hustle the hardest in January. The whole video was about not sprinting into 2025 but pacing yourself.

I noticed that it had no comments and no likes, and I thought that was strange for a three-month-old video starring a pretty blonde girl. That’s when I checked the description and discovered that it was not three months old, it had just been uploaded 15 minutes earlier. What a clever joke. I commented: “A video about not hustling in January, uploaded two days before Spring begins in March, is the most ‘pacing yourself’ thing I have ever seen.”

Well played, miss. Well played.

R.I.P. Margolese, You Old Prune Shit Ass

The most oft quoted line from any movie Bonnie and I have seen has to be from Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts’ 2001 film The Mexican. Robert Krumholtz’s character, Beck, is telling Brad Pitt’s character, Jerry, how he told his mob-boss grandfather, Margolese – later revealed to be Gene Hackman – to fuck off the other day. Then, he launches into a drunken reenactment of the moment shouting, “Fuck you, Margolese, you old prune shit ass” as he pisses all over himself while trying to aim for a wall.

It’s one of the funniest lines in a woefully underrated film; any film for that matter. The only other line from a movie that even comes close, is from Fool’s Gold. Anytime Bonnie drops anything – and I mean anything, anywhere – I’ll pick it up, hand it back to her and say, “Is this your (whatever the thing is)?” and then she replies, “You saved my life.” Another underrated movie.

R.I.P Gene Hackman.
